Steve Barylick:

Being a drummer as well as a painter, my musical preferences influence the
outcome of each painting in some rhythmic, left / right brain, connective-tissue miracle.
As you first look at my work try, if you can, to forget you are seeing any color
at all, because every painting begins without color. I start instead with very thick acrylic
gel, and do extensive “drawing” with clear tar and string gels.
The designed, sculpted texture and intricate lines become my underpainting.
The acrylic gel is the consistency of very thick pudding that's milk-white when first
applied to the canvas and dries almost clear. Tar and string gels dry totally clear and
offer a 'resist', giving me the option to partially remove layers of paint.
The colors come from a combination of glazes, washes, metallic pigments, gold and
copper leaf, cold wax, spray paint and acrylic paint.
My hope is that you will feel free to experience pleasure from the work in your own way,
as I have freely created it.
