About the Gallery
Located in the East End Gallery District of Provincetown, the Hutson Gallery is committed to showing the work of local and nationally established and emerging contemporary artists working in a variety of mediums. Each season begins with an exhibit especially focused for new and established collectors followed by solo and group exhibitions.
From the Director:
In 1911, a young Louisa Jane Hutson, accompanying her older sister Stella, arrived in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Stella had accepted a teaching position at the Santa Fe Indian School after graduating with a B.S. in Household Science from the University of Illinois in 1909. Their parents would not allow Stella to make the move alone. Louisa Jane found employment at the Palace of the Governors and received art instruction from the artists in the newly formed Santa Fe Art Colony: Carlos Vierra, Gerald Cassidy and Sheldon Parsons. After 3 memorable years with this fledging colony, Louisa Jane left Santa Fe in 1914 to marry Jeremiah A. Farrell in Albuquerque. Louisa Jane always loved drawing and painting and encouraged her oldest child and my mother, Mary Margaret, to pursue her artistic yearnings. And, likewise, my mother encouraged me.
